    • Note: This text will automatically appear as an eBook in the course Canvas page. There will be an option to purchase a soft-bound edition if desired.
    • We will be using an online system called MindTap for this course, which comes with our book and will be integrated with Canvas.
  • The Visual Display of Quantitative Information, 2nd edition (paperback); by Edward R. Tufte; ISBN #978-1930824133
  • Microsoft Excel with the Data Analysis Add-In enabled.
  • Tableau: In addition to Excel, we will be using a tool called Tableau for data visualization that you can download and register for free using the code below:
    (Tableau should also be installed on computers in the classroom.)

Subsection TAAP: Textbook Affordability and Access Program

Course materials are available through TAAP (Textbook Affordability and Access Program). Log into your portal through uccs.textbookx.com. You can review your personalized value sheet within your portal to see if TAAP benefits you. There is the option to TAAP out if the program does not fit your needs.

Digital course materials are generally accessed through Canvas.
Physical course materials can be picked up at the Campus Store unless you opted for home delivery.

(We will be meeting in a computer lab, so it’s okay if you don’t have a personal computer -- you can use a computer in our classroom. But you are still expected to check email/Canvas regularly.)

Subsection Technology Competencies

You are expected to begin this course with basic computing skills that include using Canvas, Microsoft Word, accessing online research databases, and corresponding using your UCCS email. Knowledge of certain multimedia tools, such as PowerPoint or other audio/video platforms is a plus. See UCCS Online Technical Skills for more information.
